The Shadow of the Wind - Ruiz Zafon

A friend recommended this really amazing book to me. The story set in Spain in the days after WWII is about Daniel Semepere who in his early childhood is introduced to the Semetry of Forgotten books. There he finds a book by an author called Julian Carax titled The Shadow of the Wind. Daniel really likes the book and tries to find out more about the author but the more he finds out the more the gets involved into the past life of the author. Once I got past the first hundred pages I couldn't put down this book as it races through the imaginative landscapes of the authors mind. I really liked the character of Fermin, Daniel's buddy in this saga, who is always full of these really insightful and terribly hillarious quotations/metaphors:

"Look, Daniel. Destiny is usually around the corner. Like a thief, like a hooker, or a lottery vendor: its three most common personifications. But what destiny does not do is home visits. You have to go for it."
